Tatting to June

I have no idea what happened to May, it just flew by. I found out I have a 1 1/2 x 3 foot table that I'm expected to put samples of my work on when I go to Japan in October. That's doesn't sound too bad, except for the fact that I give most my tatting away to friends and family. As a result I've been tatting away whenever and where ever I can. I finally got the purse pattern all diagrammed and written up in shorthand. I'll share it down the line a bit. Here's a picture of the first purse I did (the pink one and my second refigured pattern). The original pattern was by Bobbie Demmer and Gwen Coen. My pattern has been redone with their permission. Originally it had three rounds and quite a bit of split chains. I made the rings and chains larger to make it two rounds and refigured it a bit to make less and smaller split chains. Hopefully making the pattern close to finish able in the class.

They've also asked for a couple of patterns to work on at home. One of the patterns I'm bringing them is an old butterfly pattern. It was originally in either a Needlecraft magazine or a Modern Priscilla. I copied the pattern from one I had in Dora Youngs collection. One butterfly is done in size 20 Lizbeth the other in size 40 DMC. I haven't finished writing a shorthand and diagramming it, but I will post it when I do.

I also tatted up a couple of Debbie Arnolds patterns. I just love her patterns, they're so much fun.

  2. Those bags are very cute! You called them 'penny' bags, does this mean they're small, like change purses? They don't look very large. They look great, though. Have fun when you go to Japan - what an experience that will be!

  3. Yes the grey purse is about 2 1/4" across. They're also called reticules. The strings from the ring go through rings at the top of the purse. When you open the flap it looks like there is no opening. You have to pull the sides apart to open and change will go though the strings. Kids love these because they're a puzzle to open.
